Heatless curls are soft, defined curls you wrap in at night and take down in the morning. No curling iron, no hot rollers, no heat. Wrap damp hair around a satin or velvet rod, sleep on it, and wake up to overnight curls that hold into a second day.

Heat styling is a fast route to breakage, dryness, and split ends. Satin and velvet wrap the hair instead of cooking it, so your strands keep their moisture and shine while they set.

Our sets come in satin curling rods, XL rods for length, velvet sets for extra grip, and flexi rods for springier curls. The original satin heatless curler made this a category, and the range now fits most lengths and textures.

How heatless curls work

The method is simple. Start with damp hair, around 80% dry, not soaking. Section it, wrap each piece around a soft rod, and secure the ends. Damp hair dries into the shape it is held in, which is the whole mechanism behind curls without heat.

The rod you choose shapes the result as much as your technique does. Thicker rods give you looser waves, and thinner rods give you tighter, more defined curls.

Leave the rods in for four to six hours, or overnight for the easiest set. A longer, cooler dry gives you more defined curls with no thermal damage.

Overnight heatless curls

Overnight is when heatless curling makes the most sense. Sleeping in the set gives your hair the full four to six hours to dry, with zero active effort on your part.

Satin matters most here. It glides against your strands instead of dragging, so you skip the friction, creases, and morning frizz a rough pillowcase can leave behind. Pair your set with a satin pillowcase and the whole system stays smooth overnight.

Because there is no heat and no tension, the set is gentle enough to repeat as often as you like, and the curls often loosen into soft second-day waves. You wake up, unwrap, and your curls are already done.

Which heatless curling set is right for you?

A collection like this one lets you match the format to your hair instead of settling for one rod that does everything. Here is how the main formats compare.

Satin Heatless Curling Set

XL Satin Set

Velvet Set

Flexi Rods

Curl type

Defined, bouncy curls

Looser, longer waves

Defined curls, extra grip

Tighter, springy ringlets

Best for

Most lengths, fine to medium

Long or thick hair

Silky hair that slips

Short to shoulder-length, targeted curls

A few things to weigh:

Hair length: shorter hair suits flexi rods and smaller rods, while long hair holds better on an XL rod.

Hair thickness: fine hair needs thinner sections, and thick hair needs more sections and a longer set.

Curl tightness: flexi rods bend to hold springy ringlets or target a few pieces around the face, while the classic satin set gives soft, bouncy curls. Velvet sets add grip for silky hair that slips.

Heatless curls by hair type

  • Short hair: reach for flexi rods or smaller rods, and expect a shorter set time.

  • Long hair: an XL rod holds the length without the ends slipping out.

  • Thick hair: split into more sections and give it a longer set.

  • Fine hair: use thinner sections and avoid over-wetting, since fine strands hold less water.

  • Curly or wavy hair: use a set to smooth and define what you already have.

Frequently asked questions

Do heatless curlers actually work?

Yes. Damp hair dries into whatever shape you hold it in, so wrapping it around a rod and letting it set creates real curls with no heat. The trick is starting with damp, not soaking, hair and giving it enough time to dry fully.

Do you do heatless curls on wet or dry hair?

Damp hair, around 80% dry. Soaking hair holds too much water to set in a few hours, and fully dry hair will not take the shape. Towel-dry or air-dry partway first.

How long do you leave heatless curls in?

Four to six hours for a daytime set, or overnight for the easiest option. The longer your hair dries in the wrapped shape, the more defined and lasting the curls.

What should you put in your hair before heatless curls?

A little leave-in conditioner, curl cream, or mousse adds hold and definition. Our Argan Milk Leave-In pairs well with a set and keeps strands soft while they dry.

Are heatless curlers better for your hair than a curling iron?

They skip the thermal damage a hot tool can cause, since no heat is involved. For hair prone to dryness or breakage, that makes heatless curling a gentler way to get curls, though the results build over a longer set time.
